One Health Patron
Kevin has been an esteemed patron of The Canadian Foundation for Animal-Assisted Support Services (CFAS) since 2010. Kevin is a three time Canadian blind speed skater world champion with aspirations of competing at the Olympics. In addition to speed skating, he trained 5 years on Team Canada Development Rowing, two years with the Paralympic Team Canada Blind Team in running and made the Canadian Standards. This year Kevin also made the Canadian standard for tandem cycling in 2017/2018 winning a silver at Canadians 2017 in indoor track racing and gold at the Ontario Road Race Time Trials. Last month Kevin won a silver metal at the 2018 Road Racing event in Montreal and Last year he took up blind golfing and won low net at Canadians/ Provincial and 2nd overall at USA Blind Championships in Texas in 2016/2017. Kevin has a condition called Usher Syndrome; this progressive disease has left him with 2% vision and 9% hearing. Kevin has had two guide dogs Nemo being his first and Lewis who is by his side today. Kevin says that he wouldn't be where he is today without his faithful guide dogs. Kevin's message is one of hope in every facet of life ever remembering and inspiring others to never give up their dreams and to always keep smiling.

Lewis MacKenzie, CM,O Ont,MSC and Bar, CD Major General (Ret'd.) Lewis MacKenzie was born in Truro, N.S. a long time ago. He is a graduate of Xavier Junior College of Sydney N.S. and the University of Manitoba. During his thirty six year military career he served nine years in Germany with NATO forces and managed to avoid service in Ottawa by fitting in nine peacekeeping tours of duty in the Gaza Strip, Cyprus, Cairo, Vietnam, Central America and Sarajevo.
In 1990 Lewis was appointed commander of the United Nation’s Observer mission in Central America. Two years later he was assigned to the United Nation’s Protection Force in Yugoslavia. In May of that year he created and assumed command of Sector Sarajevo and with a small contingent of soldiers from 31 countries opened the Sarajevo airport for the delivery of humanitarian aid during the height of the Bosnian civil war. As a result he became the first Canadian, military or civilian to be awarded a second Meritorious Service Cross. Read more...

He was raised and educated in Ottawa, Ontario, where he has continued to live. His early employment, along with his 13 brothers and sisters, was in his father’s shoe repair store in lower town. David has become well known for his commitment to his community and its well being. He credits his parents with having instilled in him the gift of giving early in life, particularly for those who are the most disadvantaged in the community. Read more...

Retired Veteran Lloyd Swick’s military and public service career spans more than 44 years. He served as a platoon commander with the Calgary Highlanders in the liberation of Holland during WWII. Post war he attended the University of Manitoba and earned a BSc degree. He rejoined the military to serve with the Princess Patricia’s Canadian Light Infantry Regiment in Korea. He also undertook United Nations’ Observer duties in India and Pakistan.
