Vision Statement

Our vision is to be the philanthropic leader that supports the innovation, coordination, and integration of Animal-Assisted Support Services within Canada's health-care and social service sectors.

Mission Statement

Our mission is to ensure the sustainability, credibility, and availability of Animal Assisted Support Services by supporting related charities and those they serve.

Why a public foundation?

Public foundation - A public foundation (such as a hospital foundation) generally gives more than 50% of its income annually to other qualified donees, usually other registered charities. It must be established either as a corporation or a trust, and more than 50% of directors/trustees deal with each other at arm's length. A public foundation generally receives its funding from a variety of arm's length sources. It may carry out some of its own charitable activities.

Goals:

1. To unite Animal Assisted Support Services stakeholders to identify core values and common priorities to stimulate collaborative action in the spirit of cooperation and inclusiveness.

2. To inspire a consistent level of quality, safety, and satisfaction of those served.

Animal Assisted Support Services

Animal Assisted Support Services are programs and services where the animal becomes the means used in treatment or for assistance to improve functional capabilities and quality of life©.

Who Benefits?

Individuals facing physical, intellectual, emotional, behavioral, developmental, and social challenges benefit from Animal Assisted Support Services {AASS}. Services are tailored to meet the special needs of those served.

Organization History Profile

  • Joanne Moss the Founder was invited to share her vision with a Workplace Accessibility Advisory Committee (WAAC) in 1997
  • The WAAC raised funds to incorporate
  • Long-time supporter of National Access Awareness Week
  • February 6, 1998 the organization was incorporated with Industry Canada as a national non-profit organization
  • Later the organization applied for a public foundation charitable status and the application was approved on February 14th, 2005
  • The organization’s name was changed in 2007 to better reflect its mandate
